Making Art with Angelina Fibres and Plastic Food Wrappers
After working with Hot Fix Angelina Fibres and plastic in
the workshop I did a few weeks ago, I
wanted to give it another go and put my own twist on those ideas. I had only a
vague idea of what I wanted to achieve, so there was quite a lot of trial and
error, and seeing what worked.
Next, I made a circle template onto baking paper and started
arranging the Angelina and wrapper circles and rings within that space. I then
put more baking paper over the top and ironed it to fuse the fibres together.
A few words of warning: make sure you are definitely using
Hot Fix Angelina. I discovered that one of mine was just the regular type and
so didn’t fuse properly. Fortunately, I got around that in the next step, by
fusing it with Mistyfuse.
Also, as you can see from my experiments, the rings shrivelled
up too much, so I ended up using circles and cutting the middle out after
heating.
Once I’d made a few disks (and wasn’t completely happy with
many of them) I layered a few of them up and fused them together with
Mistyfuse, making sure not the heat the plastic wrappers much more again. I put
some onto fabric using this same method.
I have four pieces now, which still need some work doing on
them, but that I like so far. It’s very difficult to capture in photos just how
shimmery and beautiful these are, but they kind of remind me of space.

Are these foil food bags? Cooking paper. Parchment?
