I became interested in book binding a few years ago. It was only after learning more about it and discovering how people had used the book form that I realised how loose the term ‘book’ was and therefore how else it could be used.
I initially tried the more traditional bookbinding techniques with some success, but I have since found much greater enjoyment in experimenting with different styles. Alisa Golden’s
Making Handmade Books in particular has inspired and helped me greatly in trying out new ideas and methods.

Book for sea project with glue binding and hard cover |

Sketchbook with light card cover |

Book for inspiration (walls, decay etc.) with light card cover |

Book for multi-media surfaces project with side binding |

Book of inspiration (clouds/trees at night etc.) with side binding |

Book for 'The' project as a flag book |
The process has been a steep learning curve and none of these books are by any means perfect, but they have been a lot of fun to make and use as a way to try out new techniques that I wouldn't have otherwise tried.
