Making Heat Embossed Art
Following on from my ideas in my previous two posts (Heat Embossed Gift Tag Card and Experimenting with Heat Embossing), I
decided to try and incorporate heat embossing into my artwork. I thought it
would be a great way to add texture or accents to my usual style of working.
These are still works in progress, not completed pieces, but
I love how they have turned out so far. Read on to take a look.
To do the heat embossing, I used an ink pad and a circle
stencil to create the pattern and then embossed it with clear powder so that
you could see the colour of the ink through.
I went over the embossing with a palette knife and a mix of
colours to match the colour I’d used for the ink pad. I tried to scrape a
thinner layer over the embossed areas, so that the texture could still be seen
and wouldn’t get lost under a layer of thick paint.
These are my results.
In the following example I took a print from stencil, giving
me a print of the outlines of the circles, which I then embossed.
I feel like these are just the start of this process. I want
to use other stencils, stamps, or try and make my own marks which I can then emboss
to create texture. As for the pieces above, I’m not sure where to take them at
the moment, so I’ll keep hold of them until I am.
