The 100 Day Project Recap
From the 19th April to the 27th July, I
took part in the #the100dayproject on Instagram. My
idea was to do ‘100 Days of Noticing’ which was going to involve responding to
the things I saw during those 100 days through photography and art. In the end,
I decided to solely focus on photography.
I took a picture every day, usually while I was out walking
my dog. Most of the photos I took were close up and detailed pictures of the
things I saw. Over the course of the 100 days, I realised that the things that
interested me the most were the textures and colours in nature.
The rest of my 100 Days were mostly photos of nature and
natural things.
I did spend a week taking photos of man made objects as a
challenge to myself.
I also spent a week in the Lake District which changed
things up a bit. During this week I also had a sketchbook with me which I
worked in most day which, although not officially part of my 100 Day Challenge,
was an extension of my intention to notice my surroundings more. You can look
through it here.
The stand out part of this project was leaves. I would
collect them and bring them back home so I could take better photos of them. I
love the different colours in them and how that changes through time.
I wanted to use these leaves more, so I started looking at
ways I could preserve them. It was my reason for starting to use plastic to
encapsulate them, which eventually lead me onto plastic bag art. I also
read about ways of transferring leaves to paper and fabric through steaming.
I might continue photographing leaves, and then taking it a
step further into artwork, but for now I need a break! But it is definitely something
to try out in the future.
I’m so glad I took part in this challenge. Not only did it
make me pay more attention to the world around me, and force me to take time to
acknowledge it, but also it has helped me create a wonderful resource of
inspiration that I can use in my future work.
