Book Page Paintings

Often with these posts I try to share a new technique or idea I have been experimenting with, but sometimes it’s fun just to share some art that I’ve been working on, without having to go into detail about how I did it. This is one of those times. In any case, there isn’t really much to write about in terms of the process of creating these pictures. I just used acrylic paint (which I applied with a palette knife or old credit card) and added some marks with either oil pastel or paint pen.

I decided to use an old book so that I could work with the different quality and feel that book pages have, as well as play around with layering paint over text and the different effects that can produce. The book I was using was a bit of a strange one (hence why I was painting over it) so please excuse the highly dramatic story taking place on these pages!

The book pages, I felt, lent themselves to a darker, earthier palette, which is not a colour scheme I regularly use, so I had fun trying that out.

If you’d like to see more of my work as I create it, you can follow me on Instagram. I am trying to get into the habit of updating it regularly with my work.
